Thank you my dear friend Maria, a true and kind friend, elegant and poised you were dazzling. I understand why my mother, Maureen was drawn to you so quickly. The Arts, traveling and an ease of being in your company- I take faith that you are both together, please hold me a seat until I make it, I’m sure Leonard Cohen will be playing in the background. Maria, you stepped into my life at the most needed of timing, although you had known me from a child, we lived in a block of four apartments and you became a kindred spirit. We could talk for hours, sipping lovely wine and no topic of discussion was off limits, you were such a smart woman. The friendship was separated by but years but you were one of the best friends I’ve had. Maria, you taught me to invest in timeless clothes to wear, and to dress your best every day, which gave me such confidence. Maria, you taught me a passion for gardening and we made a plentiful garden every year we lived together. Maria, you taught me your famous tuna salad which I named ‘Mimi’s Famous Tuna Salad’ it was the only tuna meal I could have at work and people asked for the recipe instead of turning their noises. I wish I had a chance to say goodbye but I’m glad we had a chance to have a good chat in February. I will miss you and every time I plant my new seeds each season I shall think of you as they grow. To Will and Tom, you had the most beautiful mother and she loved you endlessly. She is with you now forever. I’ll see you in the Sky one day my friend and I hope my Mumma has the best party for you. Much Love, Laura Hook (neè Vaughan) and Glen, Lana and Nashua

For many, a funeral is a ritual of loss and connection where we remember our loved ones who have passed and comfort the living. The coronavirus outbreak has altered that ritual and changed the way we say goodbye: the loss remains, the connections change.

The family has the difficult decision of which ten people will attend the funeral.  They are aware that many of you would like to attend but unfortunately, due to the restrictions in place, it is not possible.

This link will allow you to view the Live Stream of the service. Following the service, a video tribute celebrating Maria's life as well as a replay of the service will be available for viewing.
