To the extended Lapanaitis family, I am extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Thea Panagiota ‘Patty’ Lapanaitis. She was truly the matriarch of the family – always bringing everyone together to celebrate any occasion and bring happiness wherever she could. She was a mother not only to her children, but to anyone fortunate to know her. Thea Panagiota always radiated positive energy and always showed a genuine interest in others, offering her time to listen, and made you feel special. She expressed her love through her cooking and preparation of meals – so much so that she needed two kitchens - such was the number of family and friends she welcomed into her home. She was the most gracious host and always carried great conversations…I’m forever grateful to have been welcomed into the family and experience Thea’s delicious food, great conversations and generous hospitality. I know that Thea Panagiota not only leaves you all with many, many fond memories, but she also a legacy for future generations to follow – a legacy of caring, empathy, kindness and an absolute steely resolve mixed with good humour. Her greatest gift to her family and friends, was to show every single one of them they were loved. Our heartfelt thoughts are with your family. Rest in Peace, Thea. Chris Tzarimas (Billabong) and family.

Dear Yaiya, I'll miss popping in for coffee to only have had a whole roast with sides prepared, but most of all I'll miss the love you had and professed for your whole family including myself. You'd always go out of your way to grab a family member walking past, pull them in close with a hug and say how much you loved them. You made me feel special the only way a grandmother could and I'm devastated to have you taken away. Forever in my heart, I love you.

Michael Lapanaitis
To my mum, Yiota I can not describe how devastated I am feeling with you leaving all of us. I will never forget the beautiful moments that you and I have created and can not believe I will no longer have you here calling for your Maiko. I will cherish your motherly love that you have showed me over my life and for my wife and my beautiful daughters. I know that you have felt an emptiness since our father left us seven years ago and today you would be so happy that you have been reunited in heaven. Undoubtedly you both will be watching over me but please know that I will always have a pain inside me knowing that neither you or dad are next to me here in this world! With so much love for you, Your son, Michael

Yiayia I love you and we all love you. We are in shock that you are gone but we will all deeply miss you. You were so kind, generous, especially on grandparents day with the bar of chocolate you used to sneak into my bag, and you were caring for all of your family and loved ones. I have shared many memorable moments with you in my life and I am truly devastated that we couldn’t share any more. I will deeply miss the schnitzels, the salty salad and your pasta that you loved making us. You are with Papou now and you both are looking down on us. We are all saddened that you are gone but you are in a better place now and you will be remembered by all of us. I love you Yiayia and you will always have a place in my heart.

I miss you so much already, but I know you will always be there watching over us. Love you ❤️

For many, a funeral is a ritual of loss and connection where we remember our loved ones who have passed and comfort the living. The coronavirus outbreak has altered that ritual and changed the way we say goodbye: the loss remains, the connections change.

The family has the difficult decision of which ten people will attend the funeral.  They are aware that many of you would like to attend but unfortunately, due to the restrictions in place, it is not possible.

Following the service, a replay of the service will be available for viewing.
