Hi Anne, thank you for letting us know the sad news about your mums passing. I tried to contact her just before Christmas and again in the new year but unfortunately was not able to speak to her. There are really no words that can be spoken to soften the sorrow or lessen the loss that is felt from losing someone we love especially a person like your mum. Joe and I remember her with such wonderful memories (a) as our first Italian student when we started our Italian classes and (b) as a good friend. We know that we must accept her passing but a profound sense of sadness, emptiness, and grief is felt. However, it's important to realize that your mother lived a full life and her life gave us all memories too beautiful to forget. Words, however kind, can't mend your heartache, but those who care and share your loss wish you comfort and peace of mind. Time and prayer is the key to healing pain and we offer you both. May you find strength in the love of family and in the warm embrace of friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult period. Sincere condolences Dona & Joe Di Giacomo

Remembering Eola fondly today, ANZAC day. In 2013 Eola and Emery travelled with the Sydney Male Choir when the choir sang at the official dawn service, Villers-Bretonneux, at the invitation of the Australian Government.

Dear Eola’s family, I wanted to write and say I am so sorry to hear of Eola’s passing. I live in the same building as your mum and have always been impressed by her courage and her strength. She was an amazing woman, I will never forget the image of her walking bravely and boldly up 7 flights of stairs when the lifts were out. She was a special woman, kind and thoughtful. It was a pleasure to know her.

Todays service was a beautiful tribute to Eola. Just felt so strange to be watching it on a computer screen but thank you for allowing us all the opportunity to be part of this final farewell. We look forward to the day, whenever it might be, when we can get together to share our love of our wonderful Aunty and tell lots of stories over a few glasses of wine. Our love to you all, Leanne, Steve, Kate and Sally

Our deepest sympathies to Eola’s family for their loss. We have lovely memories of Eola as a kind, thoughtful and generous person, who cared for others at all times. We were very touched that she made a special effort last year to visit Griffith for Ottavina’s 90th birthday - she was absolutely chuffed at this and it made her day. Thank you for lovely service, Ottavina, John and Jill, Dennis and Susan, Lillian andGlen and families xxx

I am at a loss for words at this difficult time. Condolences to Annie, Bryan, Paul, extended family and friends. The loss of Eola leaves a gap to large to define. Eola was like an Aunty to our family. Our families shared so many interests and we spent alot of weekends and evening together. Our parents holidayed together.and as kids we all played hide and seek in each other's homes, went to the beach and on picnics. Eola was eternally a kind, warm and generous human being that will be remembered in all our hearts. Linda Swinfield on behalf of Helen, Andrew, Pam. On behalf of the Swinfield family.

Paul, Brian& Annie, There is so much that we could say about your Mother, our lovely friend Eola. She will be greatly missed by all of us who have been fortunate enough to call her our friend. She lived her life, regardless of good or bad times, in a manner that all of us admired . She always had a smile or a giggle to share and/or compassion as needed. When we (and all our children) were much younger we spent many great times together. As our families grew up our times together were more scattered but our friendship never waivered and we are fortunate to have seen her very recently. Rest in Peace our dear friend. Our love and condolences go out to Paul, Brian & Annie & the extended DeBortoli family. We look forward to the time when we can come together to celebrate the life of a very special lady

Dear Eola’s Family Please accept my sincere condolences. Your mum always had a smile on her face, She would listen to chatter in the Pilates room and offer sound advice. Mary
As part of our very tightly knit high school class group, I regarded Eola as being very special. She was such a caring and genuine person, full of life and sincere in her affections. She was our class captain in our final high school year. Leaving Griffith after school and spending most of my time working in Darwin, I was not able to attend our class reunions except the last one in 2017. However, she had met up with me in Darwin and later in my retirement, in Queensland with Robyne, and I with her in Sydney on visits to my son who lives there. We kept in touch. I spent many happy times during our school years, driving out to her family's farm but the most memorable time was at her parents' unit in Sydney where several of our group stayed at the end of our last school year for our teachers' medical. We were all delirious with joy as can be seen in this photo. Thank you Eola for your friendship and for all the joy. Mary Elliott (Caichiolo)

Eola, " Looking right back at ya" Rest peacefully. With all that had been thrown at you over the last few years, I was, and still am in awe as to how you dealt with it. Acceptance, grace, and humour. A class act. Thank you for your friendship. Annie, Paul and Bryan - though scattered geographically, stay close. Col xxx

I am Tom, Secretary of the Sydney Male Choir, and we had the pleasure of Eola and her sister-in-law, Emeri, travel with us in France and England in the Choir's Centenary Year in 2013. It was an absolute delight to have met and travelled with her there. We remained friends, catching up occasionally. We valued her support and interest in the Choir. We wish to offer our sincere condolences to those around her at this time. My wife, Teresa, and I support these sentiments, and she will remain in our thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Tom Coghlan.

Eola and I met in a playground near the Griffith Scout Hall when we were about 7 or 8 years old and marvelled that our birthdays were exactly a month apart. We did not get to know each other until we went on the same school bus to Griffith High and were neighbours near Bilbul. Eola and I subsequently married and had families far apart, and I regret that we never met each others' children, but she has a very special person in my life - ever kind, considerate and stable. We all loved her and feel a great loss at her passing.

Eola and Ian have become such dear friends since we met 35 years ago. Despite the distance we always kept in touch and found time to meet again. I will never forget these lovely moments. Eola, you had and will always have a very special place in my heart. It is filled with beautiful memories and a lot of love for you. I am so greatful that we were together in Rome last Octobre. It makes this photo even more special. I will miss you so much! Anne, Bryan and Paul, you are blessed to have had Eola as your mother. I wish you all a lot of strength. Love, Monique from Holland

A truly beautiful lady who never changed and always made you feel like you had only seen her yesterday. We will miss hearing her voice and seeing her big smile. She is in a better place they say, but it is a shame she had to go so soon. Lots of love and best thoughts to all the Cummins/De Bortoli from Les. and Bronwen.

The family has the difficult decision of which ten people will attend the funeral.  They are aware that many of you would like to attend but unfortunately, due to the restrictions in place, it is not possible.

Family and Friends are invited to view the live feed by using the below link: https://v2.streaming.funeralsuite.com.au/e/5MU9Lgje
Pincode 5454.

Following the funeral on Thursday, a link to the funeral service and a video celebrating Eola's life will be available for your viewing also.

The family asks that instead of flowers to please donate to the Kolling Institute for Cancer Research www.kollinginstitute.org.au

Thank you to everyone for their expressions of love, support and for sharing memories.

For many, a funeral is a ritual of loss and connection where we remember our loved ones who have passed and comfort the living. The coronavirus outbreak has altered that ritual and changed the way we say goodbye: the loss remains, the connections change.
