How Does Repatriation Work?

Your loved one passes, but their wish was to be buried overseas? what is the process and what do you
need to do to make it happen smoothly? There are 3 main things that need to be organised, below is a
breakdown and overview of each requirement to make the process easier to understand and follow..

Funeral / Cremation Service
& Deceased Identification

A Funeral Director will need to be
contacted to help with the process.
You will need to provide a copy of the
passport or identity card for the country
that they will be repatriated to, the
funeral director will also help with
any local funeral service needed.

Repatriation Documentation

Your Funeral Director will organise
the documents required, these
include the following: Doctors
Certificates, Non-infection Letters,
Embalming Certificates, Apostile &
Consulate stamps, Letter of freight as
well as other essential documents for
travel to the destination country

Pre-Flight Preparation

Similar to any overseas travellers
your loved one needs to be prepared
for the flight, since the beloved is not
able to adapt to the pressures of flight
they are embalmed and pressure
sealed inside the coffin prior to departure
to ensure that they arrive in the
best condition possible.

Repatriation - Laying them to Rest

Your Funeral Home will coordinate the flights and
works together with a local funeral home in the home
town, to ensure that the beloved is well looked after.
There may be another ceremony for relatives prior to
a burial or the Internment of the remains in the manner
which was requested by the beloved or the family.
